A newborn baby was grazed by a lost bullet inside of the Barão de Lucena Hospitallocated in the Iputinga neighborhood, in the West Zone of Recife, Brazil. The incident occurred just four hours after the baby is bornwhen the family was in the pediatric ward on the fifth floor of the hospital.
The event took place on the night of Sunday, May 26, around 7 p.m. The father of the new born, Luís Guedes, told TV Globo that he and his wife heard a strange noise, followed by the loud crying of their daughter. When they picked up the baby, they discovered a bullet next to her head.
“I was sleeping and, suddenly, we heard a muffled explosion. My daughter started crying very loudly and, when I checked her, I saw the bullet next to her head,” Luís said.
Luís and his wife quickly removed the baby from the crib and noticed a wound on his head. There were two other newborns in the same room. In the midst of desperation, the father sought help from the military police present at the hospital, who came to the scene to isolate the area and guarantee security.
Fortunately, the baby was immediately seen by a neonatologist. After carrying out the necessary tests, it was confirmed that the newborn is in good health.
According to Military Police, the shot probably came from the street. The Civil Police has reported that the case is being investigated by the Cordeiro Police Station and that the necessary measures will be taken to clarify what happened.
