Motorists: “Hours in queue”. The first citizens ask for an urgent meeting with the Municipality. Campora: “Ok, but let’s go ahead”
Genoa – Almost an hour – 55 minutes – per travel ten kilometers of via Aurelia. The ten kilometers that separate Recco from Nervi. This is the calculation made by Matteo Saltino, a commuter motorist who, like many other residents of Sori, Pieve, Bogliasco, and of course Nervi, are suffering the repercussions of the start-up of the new limited traffic zone system in Nervi. «It is a chaos both in the morning when you go to Genoa to work and on the way back at the end of the day. The situation is unsustainable and many are collecting signatures ”, underlines Saltino.
Certainly yesterday morning, after the new very difficult day along the Via Aurelia of the Golfo Paradiso, he was not the only one to complain: “I tried to leave earlier but things don’t change. In the queue there are people who go to work, children heading to school, people who have to reach the hospital. Adding traffic lights in an already busy city does not seem to be a viable solution », highlights Ilaria Bozzo, in the dual role of commuter and municipal councilor in Sori. On this point, after the harsh attack the other day by the new mayor of Bogliasco Luca Pastorino, there is full harmony between the administrations concerned. Whether they are civic like that of Pieve Ligure, center-right as in Sori or center-left as in Bogliasco.
«This morning from Pieve a Nervi I took thirty minutes – underlines the mayor of Pieve Adolfo Olcese – It is necessary to check the overall functionality of the traffic lights, particularly verifying the synchronism between the systems. Also because the traffic problems that have arisen are evident and rather deleterious for mobility in Aurelia ». The mayor of Sori Mario Reffo is also worried: «I am not discussing the measure taken for Nervi but for our citizens it is a disaster. I will send an email to the Municipality of Genoa today to ask for a meeting. We have to work together to find a solution, because that’s not really good ”.
For Luca Pastorino, as mentioned, an open door breaks down: “There is nothing political in asking to face a dramatic situation and I am pleased that my colleagues in the area also agree with me. The problems created by Nervi’s provision are objective and all fall on those who move on the Via Aurelia, whether they depart from Genoa or arrive from Bogliasco, Pieve, Sori, Recco and the other towns in the area. In these few days of implementation of the new road system we have realized that the queues and traffic jams on the highway have increased a lot. We do not want to intervene on the urban and road planning choices of Genoa, but everyone runs through the state road and we ask for respect for our commuters ».
Inevitably the matter ends on Matteo Campora’s table, councilor for traffic, who defends the plan and replies: «The mayors should call me or send an email, not talk in the newspapers. Having said that, I am open to any comparison. But on the choices made, starting with the establishment of traffic lights such as the one at the intersection of via Somma and via Campostano, there is nono intention of going back ».
On the queues he adds: «Today, around 10 am, I walked the Via Aurelia and I haven’t seen any queues. Maybe there is more traffic in the early morning, but in any case this is a situation than already it existed before the nerve measures. The Via Aurelia is always at risk of traffic jams, I don’t see anything new ». In short, the Municipality goes on. Key points of the ongoing experimentation: via Oberdan is a one-way street to go up from the Largo Pesce roundabout to the intersection of viale Franchini; there is a Ztl in via Oberdan between piazza Pittaluga and viale Franchini from east to west (for now without pass and without fines); there is the inversion of the one-way street in via Campostano, towards the mountain, with the new traffic light system at the intersection with via Donato Somma; the terminus of 15 was moved to via Pagano with the introduction of the electric circular shuttle 515. 48 parking spaces were created in via Oberdan and 17 on via Franchini between free or with an hour disk, while 7 parking spaces were canceled in via Campostano.
The part of Ztl comes experienced as a pedestrian: people walk directly on the road even if cars pass by. And right in the upper part of via Oberdan, among the traders, there is the most lit part of the branch of the opposites. “We are continuing to collect signatures, at the 3,000 already reached we have already taken another 200 in these days – says Monica Scarso of” Rodrigo “- We have given ourselves a week’s time because we are not against it regardless, but this is not the case: from Monday no one circulates anymore, the takings are zero ».
