New Zealand’s foreign ministry on Saturday urged all its citizens in Ukraine to leave immediately, amid rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
“New Zealand does not have diplomatic representation in Ukraine and therefore the government’s capacity is very limited in terms of providing consular assistance to New Zealanders in Ukraine,” the ministry said in a statement.
“The security situation in Ukraine may change within a short period and New Zealanders should not rely on evacuation support in such circumstances,” the statement said.
The warning came after US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who left Australia on Saturday, said Russia could invade Ukraine at any time. Washington and other countries have urged their citizens to leave Ukraine.
