The minister is responsible for the corona approach Chris Hipkins announced on Wednesday. The border has largely remained closed since the start of the corona crisis.
Before that, the travel bubble between New Zealand and Australia will open again from January 16 for vaccinated New Zealanders and Australians with a travel visa. From 13 February, New Zealanders elsewhere in the world will be allowed to travel to the country again.
Travelers still have to adhere to various measures. For example, they must have a negative corona test before departure, have a vaccination certificate, take another test on arrival, go into quarantine at home for seven days and then take another test.
Minister Hipkins says that it is understandable that residents and companies prefer to open the country again before Christmas, but says that the country itself still wants to be careful. Since the Covid-19 outbreak, more than 10,000 people have been infected in the country and 40 deaths have been reported, out of a population of more than 5 million people.
