New York police are investigating on Saturday a shooting that took place on the city’s subway, on a train that was at the height of the Bronx neighborhood, which left no injuries. According to the local press, the incident took place on subway line 4, around 0:50 am (local time, 1:50 am Brasília time), and although police authorities do not know exactly where it took place, it is believed to have been close to the train station. Burnside Avenue, as several bullet casings were found at the scene. The suspects were described as a 20-year-old man and woman, both Hispanic, who fled the train at the next station at 183rd Street. Although there were passengers in the car at the time of the shooting, authorities stressed that no one was injured.
The fact occurred a few days after another shooting in the New York subway, in Brooklyn, in which ten people were shot and another 13 suffered from smoke inhalation, as the criminal threw a smoke bomb into the car. The alleged perpetrator, Frank James, was arrested on Wednesday and remains in police custody after he was denied bail the next day. New York has seen a sharp rise in crime, and official figures for February indicated a rise of nearly 60% from the same month a year earlier.
