During his most recent fiscal year-end meeting, David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, announced that two new live-action films inspired by the world of The Lord of the Rings They are already in production. The first of these will be focused entirely on Gollum, with Andy Serkis reprising his iconic role, and taking on the role of director.
Serkis will not be the only one who will return to Middle Earth, since it has also been confirmed that Peter Jackson will be the producer of these two new films. Likewise, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, who worked on The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, will also take on the role of producers. This is what Serkis commented about this new project:
“Yessss, beautiful. The time has come once again to venture into the unknown with my dear friends, the extraordinary and incomparable guardians of Middle-earth, Peter, Fran and Philippa. With Mike and Pam, and the team at Warner Bros on the hunt too, along with WETA and our film family in New Zealand, it’s just delightful…”
At the moment, the only official details we have are the fact that The new film will be named after Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollumand will hit movie theaters sometime in 2026. Outside of this, details about the story, characters and any other elements are unknown. Taking into consideration the title of the film, it is likely that this installment is similar to the terrible game of The Lord of the Rings: Gollumwhich presents us with an adventure where Smeagol is pursued by Sauron’s forces.
Along with this, there are still no details about the second film that Warner Bros. is working on, although Jackson, Walsh and Boyens are also expected to have producer roles on this project.. On related topics, The Lord of the Rings actor dies. Likewise, here you can check out the new trailer for the next game in Middle Earth.
Author’s Note:
As much as I trust Andy Serkis, Warner Bros. and Jackson have shown that when expanding Tolkien’s universe on their own, the results are mixed. I hope that Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum be a good movie, and it doesn’t leave us with a bad taste in our mouths similar to The Hobbit trilogy.
