A new storm that hit Petrópolis, in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro, this Sunday (20) left at least five dead. One person was rescued alive by the Fire Department. According to the Municipal Civil Defense, until the early morning of today (21), 95 occurrences had been recorded, most of them landslides.
The new rain hit the city more than a month after the storm that left 233 dead and four missing, in February 15th this year.
The place with the highest rate of rain until the early morning of today it had been São Sebastião, where 415 millimeters of precipitation fell.
Also according to the Municipal Civil Defense, more than 400 people had to leave their homes and go to support points in the localities of Morin, Quitandinha, Amazonas, Vila Felipe, Sergeant Boening, São Sebastião, Dr. Thouzet, Alto da Serra, Forest, Independence and Simeria.
“It was a difficult day, especially after 3 pm, when Petrópolis was again the victim of heavy rain. More than 300 millimeters hit the city,” said Mayor Rubens Bomtempo, in a video posted on his social network in the first minutes of today.
