A guaranteed place in Formula 3 for the W Series champion: this is the official request that the FIA Commission for women in motorsport recently presented to the International Federation, to ensure that the winning drivers of the category dedicated exclusively to women can escalate in the series traditionally occupied by men, starting precisely with F3.
An objective that the same President of the same requesting Commission, Michèle Mouton, he explained to Autosport microphones, specifying the reason behind this proposal: “I disagree with the goal of grouping women into a single series reserved for them – He admitted – because the only way to move up in the category is to compare yourself with the best drivers around. Obviously I have nothing against the W Series, indeed, it’s nice to see women driving. But if you look at the time available, and what they can do in this parenthesis, it’s not enough. You have to compete against the best to understand what your expectations are. For now it’s funny because they have nothing to pay, they see them at work in a funny show which, at the same time, generates a good promotion. If it’s just one category, however, this doesn’t help. If instead it became a real platform, exactly like what happens with Rising Stars, where you get a promotion, all this would be great. If they don’t have to pay to run – concluded the former rally driver – either they drove on F1 weekends, or the championship winner was promoted to F3, I would join them right away. My opinion is quite clear on this “.
While waiting to understand what the FIA’s decisions will be regarding this ‘pink’ proposal, the W Series is preparing for the next championship after the one that ended just over a month ago in Austin. A season that made the British champion Jamie Chadwick, in turn winner of the first absolute edition of the series. The latter, made official in 2018, took shape in 2019, encountering a stop period the following year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
