Behold, this is the new Lexus NX. Where the previous (and first) generation was quite a busy affair, the designers have taken it easy with the new NX. The previous generation still had a kind of Swoosh (you know, the Nike logo) under the headlights, the new one has a less busy – and more successful – design. In addition, the new NX is 3 centimeters longer, 2 centimeters wider and half a centimeter higher. You can’t see the most important step for the NX, and for the brand, from the outside.
Specifications new Lexus NX
The new NX plays host to Lexus’ first plug-in hybrid system. The NX 450h+ combines a 2.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor for a combined output of 306 hp. The SUV can drive for 63 kilometers fully electrically and can reach 135 km/h without the help of the petrol engine. The 0-100 time is 6 seconds if the NX uses both motors. There is also the NX 350h, a hybrid without a plug. It offers a total of 242 horsepower and a 0-100 time of 4.2 seconds. The electric top speed of 125 km/h is clever – you don’t see that much with hybrids without a plug.
You have to press the door handle
A special feature of the new Lexus NX is the interior door handles. You should not pull the lever towards you, but press it. The NX then checks whether there is no cyclist or something similar in the blind spot. If there is a cargo bike nearby, a sound signal will sound. The driver receives a personal message when boarding, which Lexus believes is part of the Omotenashi philosophy, which means something like ‘ultimate hospitality’. The programmable buttons on the steering wheel are handy, where you can choose what the function of a button is.
By the end of this year, the new Lexus NX will appear in the Netherlands. Prices will be announced at that time. Would you rather not have a petrol engine at all? In addition to the first plug-in hybrid, Lexus is also busy with the next all-electric Lexus.
