BMW has renewed the K 1600 series and released it to the world. Both the GT, the GTL and the B and Grand America will receive an update.
The differences between the models remain unchanged. The GTL is and remains the ultimate Bavarian touring buffalo, with the GTL being the slightly sportier variant. The Grand America is a lower, American-style touring buffalo, which can also be seen as a rigged K 1600 B, where the ‘B’ still stands for Bagger.
What’s new? The thick six-cylinder block now meets the Euro5 standards, with a new engine management system and new sensors. Nevertheless, the pretty solid top power of 160 hp is retained, but it already comes in at 6,750 rpm, which is 1,000 revolutions earlier than before. The torque rises to 180 Nm (coming from 174 Nm) so that you hit the mountains just a little smoother.
The new dashboard is a 10.25 inch widescreen copy, on which the navigation is now even better visible thanks to a split screen, of course there is connectivity. It is not certain whether Bayern Munich’s home matches are also programmed by default, but the screen is wide enough for it anyway…
The GTL and Grand America, the most tour-oriented models, also receive a new audio system as standard for the better ‘Du’ of Peter Maffay while you whiz along the Autobahn. This is optional on the other models. If we have understood correctly, the adaptive cornering lighting, full LED of course, is now part of the standard equipment on the K 1600’s. In addition to ‘looking into’ corners, the light also adjusts when you accelerate or brake.
The ESA system that electronically controls the springs will now be fitted as standard on the K1600s and will also receive an update, for example, the load will be measured automatically and converted to a different spring setting, whereby driving conditions and driving style also play a role in how the system adjusts the suspension. A new ‘Midnight’ color variant is also available that is printed on the bodywork instead of sprayed.
The new K 1600s will be available early next year. As far as the prices are concerned, we are still in the dark – all adaptive cornering lighting involved…
