With almost twenty years on its curriculum (it was 2005 when it was presented for the first time) a refresh was needed. In which directions? Quite a few, after the launch of the second generation in 2015 and after a first restyling in 2019. The new Audi Q7 mega SUV will have many more new features. Starting from the octagonal single frame which now extends to the base of the light clusters and the new grille with vertical teardrop inserts for the entry-level and Business Advanced versions. The desire to show off the muscles can be seen with the optional black look package, which includes the single frame mask, the window frames, the handrails and the bumper inserts. Package can be further expanded by extending the black finish to the model name and including the Audi rings in anthracite grey.
Expanded customization possibilities
The customization possibilities are even wider than the previous model. For example, it is possible to choose between 9 decorative inserts, including the new ones in matt carbon twill, aluminum with linear embossing and natural silver ash, new metallic colors such as Chili red, Sakhir gold and Ascari blue, and a complete range of rims which includes five new proposals with sizes from 20 to 22 inches.
Driving assistance systems
As for the driving assistance systems, the new Audi Q7 can count on even more precise detection of what is happening around the car. The Audi virtual cockpit with Full HD resolution reports a wide set of information ranging from lane change warning to the presence of other road users (trucks, cars and motorbikes), from the safety distance to intersection assistance up to to online traffic light information. Included starting from the entry variant, the electric adjustment of the front seats, the leather/imitation leather upholstery and, in the case of the S line edition variant, the heated front seats, the comfort key and the diffused lighting plus package. As standard equipment, starting from the intermediate Business Advanced trim level, the Audi smartphone interface complete with the aforementioned App Store, the Audi phone box light for inductive charging of the smartphone and the third row of seats: the latter is a peculiarity, to be always, by Audi Q7.
Suspensions
The adaptive air suspension is available on request, also available in a sport configuration – the latter as standard for the Audi SQ7 TFSI – which, through the Audi drive select driving dynamics control, allows the height to be varied by up to 90 mm. ground of the car. On the motorway, for example, the ground clearance is progressively reduced as the speed increases up to -30 mm, while off-road it is possible to raise the car up to +60 mm compared to the standard setup. Audi combines the standard electromechanical steering with all-wheel steering – standard on the Audi SQ7 TFSI – capable of turning the rear wheels up to a maximum of 5 degrees.
Engines
The new Audi Q7 is offered with two diesel engines and a petrol engine which share the splitting (6 cylinders), the V-shaped architecture, the 3-litre volume and the 48 Volt mild-hybrid technology. In the case of the Audi Q7 45 TDI, the 3.0 TDI delivers 231 HP and 500 Nm of torque. The full-size SUV of the four rings thus accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 226 km/h. The most powerful version of the V6 TDI is reserved for the Audi Q7 50 TDI, rated at 286 HP and 600 Nm. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 6.1 seconds, while the top speed reaches 241 km/h . The 3.0 turbo petrol engine with direct injection featured in the Audi Q7 55 TFSI finally delivers 340 HP and 500 Nm of torque resulting in a 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and a self-limited top speed of 250 km/h. The plug-in hybrid version will debut during the first half of 2024, completing the range. All V6s work in combination with quattro permanent all-wheel drive with self-locking central differential which, in ordinary conditions, distributes the torque according to a 40:60 ratio between the front and rear axle. In the event of a loss of grip, most of the thrust is transferred to the axle which guarantees superior traction: depending on the driving conditions, up to a maximum of 70% at the front and 85% at the rear. Also shared by all engines is the eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission of the torque converter type which, thanks to refined technical solutions such as the separating clutch and the electric oil pump, interacts with the MHEV technology. The new Audi Q7 2024 will arrive in Italian dealerships by the end of April, at a starting price of 79,300 euros.
