Record. The word plays a leading role in several reports in number 224 of ABC de la Náutica, my first issue. For record, the Pedro Sardina: 34 years at ABC and almost 20 at the helm of this supplement. His legacy is practically unbeatable. Like him, too Josep Margalef and Suso Perez They have retired. Journalists passionate about the sea and sailing who make way for the next generation. Masters – for many – who have marked an era of our journalism, each one with their particular style. If you know them – which I am sure you do – you will know what I mean.
I am commissioned to take care of a leading publication for the world of Spanish sailing from now on, the sport I love. When Sardina started with her, I was new as co-director of Communication for the Princess Sofía Trophy for Olympic sailing. My first jobs in the profession were previous, at the Efe Agency and in nautical magazines, but in 2005 I started in the world of sports event communication. Mis 20 Sofias, my 11 Copa del Rey and my five Olympic Games They represent achievements, and also a starting point to launch myself with enthusiasm into this new project for ABC. But I already warn that I am not going to chase my predecessor’s record: in 20 years I hope to be on a Greek island aboard the Filigrana, the Dufour 34 that happily welcomes me and my family in my free time. At the moment it is more of a weekend house than a racing boat, much to the dismay of my partner.
Most of you will probably know me from the ‘Bonjour from Marseille‘, the videos that I have made for the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation during the coverage of Paris 2024. This and the Copa América in Barcelona have been my last works of a year in which I have been awarded the Rudder Communication Award from ‘Gaceta Náutica’. I collected the trophy a few days ago in Palma, and at the gala the presenter, Cristina Roig, referred to the trajectory of this Balearic newspaper: «We have strived to be the reference medium and the agora of a world in which we all share the same passion. “We have tried to do it with rigor and honesty and always with the critical spirit typical of the journalistic profession.”
With the permission of my dear colleagues at ‘Gaceta Náutica’, Elena Pipó and José Luis MiróI am going to borrow these lines because they clearly express what I want the ABC of Nautical to be from now on. Passion, rigor, honesty, critical spirit. And, above all, the agora of the world of sailing and nautical.
In this newly launched stage of the ABC of Nautical, we have given a new look to some content and have introduced new sections, maintaining the philosophy that has given so much success to the supplement throughout these years. It is a product open to your suggestions and experiences, because the sea belongs to everyone. An open course, for new times.
