In these hours in Ede, in the east of the Netherlands, several people are held hostage inside a famous club in the city by a man in possession of weapons and explosives. The alarm went off in the early morning of today, Saturday 30 March. Around 11.30 three hostages were freed. The police said in a post on X that “there is currently no indication of a terrorist motive.”
The place where the hostages are held is the Cafe Petticoat, a bar and nightclub in the center of Ede, a city with around 110 thousand inhabitants and 85 kilometers from Amsterdam. The attacker would have entered the business at closing time, around 4 in the morning, with weapons and explosives and would have threatened to blow up the place.
Yesterday evening the Cafe Petticoat hosted a party with techno music. The owner of the place he made it known that among the hostages are its employees.

Several special police units were deployed to the scene, where the bomb squad, firefighters and a negotiator arrived. About 150 homes in the area were evacuated. People have been asked to stay away from the area. The city's municipal administration has ordered the closure of all shops in the historic center. No trains run between Barneveld-Zuid and Ede-Wageningen.
