The infection rate in the Netherlands is getting bigger and bigger and has been continuously since the end of June. The situation is becoming more critical. Parliament is now reacting.
The Hague – Lower Saxony’s neighbor, the Netherlands, is fighting the Corona virus. More every day. Since June 30, 2021 – on this day the corona incidence was still 24.6 – the infection rate has increased rapidly and continuously. On July 13, the incidence is already 270.5. The infections can be traced back to the extreme rapidly expanding delta variant of the corona virus. Therefore, the government is now taking measures after the Netherlands lifted almost all corona rules a good two weeks ago.

On Wednesday, July 14th, the representatives of the Dutch parliament will meet in The Hague for a special session. Actually, Parliament was just in the summer recess. Health Minister Hugo de Jonge had previously sounded the alarm. According to the state health institute RIVM, 10,345 new infections were detected in the Netherlands between Friday and Saturday, the day before it was just under 7,000 and on the Saturday of the previous week it was 1100. On Monday there were already 8,441 new corona cases. In many countries in Europe the incidence develops similarly.
Corona incidence in the Netherlands explodes: young people affected
According to the government, the infections are particularly due to young people. In a discotheque in Enschede near the German border alone, 200 people were infected, mostly young people. Access was only possible with a negative test result. Apparently there were many forgeries.
Since the risk of a serious illness in adolescents is very low, the hospitals in the Netherlands are not very busy despite the high incidence. Since a rising incidence is likely to change that sooner or later, the government will take measures again.
Incidence is rising rapidly: The Netherlands is changing rules for restaurants, clubs and festivals
Therefore clubs and discos have to close again since Saturday. The catering trade is also over by midnight at the latest, as Prime Minister Mark Rutte had declared. The nightlife in the Netherlands resumed for two weeks, at the same time the incidence skyrocketed.
Festivals and major events without fixed seats and without the possibility of a safe distance are also affected by the new Corona rules. “We have to slow down the rapid spread of the virus,” warned the head of government.
