Netflix announced in the past few hours that it is in negotiations for theacquisition of Next Gamesa Finnish development team so far specialized mainly in the development of mobile video games, which will therefore become a strategic asset for the company in its expansion into the gaming world.
As demonstrated previously, Netflix does not seem to have any intention of devoting itself to acquisitions of great depth, preferring rather to choose smaller but functional studios for their own exclusive projects, probably related in large part to the intellectual properties already in possession of the video platform.
After the acquisition of Night School Studio, therefore, also comes that of Next Games, a team founded in 2013 that so far has dedicated itself to games on smartphones and the like. It should be noted, however, that it seems decidedly specialized on live service titles and the like, considering that a large part of the revenues recorded in recent years derive from microtransactions.
The acquisition is being processed and should be completed shortly, with a total outlay of about 65 million euros by Netflix, so we are definitely far from the maxi-operations that we have seen in other cases, first of all the purchase. of Activision Blizzard from Microsoft for nearly $ 70 billion. This should guarantee additional revenue from games within the catalog integrated into the Netflix video subscription, currently linked exclusively to mobile platforms.
