According to Reuters, Israeli media reports quoted the content of this plan from sources who attended a closed meeting of one of the Israeli Knesset committees.
The plan, released by retired military leaders and put forward by some lawmakers this month, calls for the evacuation of Palestinian civilians from northern areas of Gaza, which would then be declared a closed military zone.
According to the plan, Israel would place an estimated 5,000 remaining Hamas fighters under siege until they surrender.
Israel’s Army Radio reported that Netanyahu told lawmakers in the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that the plan was under consideration.
The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation (Kan Radio) quoted Netanyahu as saying that the plan is “logical” and that it is “one of the plans being considered, but there are other plans as well.”
Israel has faced heavy international criticism over the humanitarian crisis caused by its nearly year-long offensive against Hamas in Gaza, which has displaced most of the territory’s population.
The United Nations estimates that one million people, nearly half the population, currently live in a humanitarian area that constitutes less than 15 percent of the Strip and lacks basic infrastructure and services.
The United Nations says it is particularly difficult to get humanitarian aid into northern Gaza, where an estimated 300,000 to 500,000 people live.
The Gaza Health Ministry said more than 41,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli offensive since then.
