Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his joy this Friday (24) at the release of 13 Israeli hostages who were in the hands of Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip, and assured that his government is committed to bringing them back “all those still kidnapped by the terrorist group”.
The freed hostages are part of the agreement between Israel and Hamas, mediated by Qatar, Egypt and the USA, which provides for the exchange of 50 Israeli hostages for 150 Palestinian prisoners during a four-day truce in the conflict that has lasted 49 days and was triggered by the Hamas terrorist attacks against Israeli territory on October 7th.
Among the hostages released this Friday are ten Thais, one Filipino and 13 Israelis, including six elderly women, three minors and three women. They were handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross by Hamas and taken to Egypt, from where they were transferred to Israel in military vehicles.
Netanyahu stated that the release of the hostages is one of the objectives of the war against the terrorist group Hamas. He also thanked mediators from Qatar and Egypt for their roles in the negotiations.
As part of the agreement, Israel also released the first group of 39 Palestinian prisoners, 24 women and 15 teenagers accused of terrorism but not involved in the killings. The prisoners were taken to the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing, on the Egyptian border. (With EFE Agency)
