More than 200 people are concentrated next to the plot where it is planned to build the health infrastructure
More than 200 residents of the neighborhoods of San Cristóbal, San Diego, Los Angeles and Apolonia expressed their outrage on Thursday at the delays in the construction of the health center that was promised almost 15 years ago. They did it in the Plaza del Cristo de la Sangre, in front of the plot on which the building is to be erected and which is still occupied by a row of abandoned houses pending demolition. They carried banners that read: ‘We want deeds, not words. They will not stop us’ and All in one with the health center. Enough of false promises’.
“We took to the streets because the saturation is tremendous in the San Diego health center. A new center is needed in San Cristóbal,” said Fermina Giner, president of the Rabaleros Neighborhood Association, one of the organizations convening the rally. “The one in San Diego does not meet the necessary conditions, it has become too small and when we make an appointment we have to wait three or four weeks” for their GP to see them, added another neighbor, Antonia Díaz.
The project, first announced in 2008 and ratified in 2016, has suffered vicissitudes of all kinds. For years the City Council searched unsuccessfully for a place to build it. The lack of public land in the San Cristóbal neighborhood made the negotiations difficult and when it was chosen, in the so-called action unit 23 of the urban plan, a private timeshare block pending development, the Segura Hydrographic Confederation denied the permits considering that it was floodable because it was located next to the river. After almost three years of negotiations, the basin organization gave in in 2021 to pressure from the city council and authorized the project with conditions. Now the ball is still on the roof of the Town Hall, which is working on land management to make the plot available to the Ministry of Health.
“Our first complaint is to the City Council to resolve the problem with the four owners of the plot” who have filed allegations against the project, said Giner, who warned that yesterday’s “is only the first concentration” of the neighbors if They do not meet their demands.
The Community plans to allocate 6.5 million euros to its construction, but the residents fear that it will not include the primary care emergency service (Suap) that was promised to them, since in the Primary Care Infrastructure Plan 2022-2026 it does not These benefits are detailed, added the neighborhood spokeswoman. Politicians from the PSOE, PP, IU and Vox attended the citizen rally, to whom the neighborhood representative asked for “unity” to achieve their goal.
