Subject to the notarial counting of the approximately 18,000 votes collected, the initiative “More than a vote of no confidence” against the current president of the FC Barcelona, Josep Maria Bartomeu, achieved the required number of signatures. This paved the way for a vote of no confidence in the club boss.
With Jordi Farré, Víctor Font and Lluis Fernández Alá, three candidates for the presidency and a total of eight interest groups have joined the association “More than a vote of no confidence”. In the end, the operators of the initiative had to stretch again. Because by Wednesday, the last complete day of the deadline (which expires on Thursday at 12 noon), only around 14,000 of the at least 16,521 votes required had been reached. But also tweets like that of the former president Joan Laporta (headed the association for two terms from 2003 to 2010) apparently managed to mobilize a large group of members just in time.
“I’ve already signed,” the former club boss tweeted, “and if I could, I would sign 20,000 more times, if that could drive Bartomeu and his board out. They have done a lot of damage to Barça and deserve it It’s not about staying in office even a minute longer. Today is the last day – hurry up if you haven’t signed yet. “
If all the collected signatures prove to be valid, the next step would be to convene a member vote. This should be announced within ten to twenty days after the deadline. If two thirds of the electorate opted for the removal of the current club leadership, they would be forced to resign from all their offices. An interim management would manage the club’s business until the new elections then required.
