Several mobilizations have focused on the health issue these months, especially in the Campoo region where “the citizens of this region have been neglected, without a doctor at the SUAP in Reinosa and without an ICU, on fifteen occasions since the month of June” explained the spokesperson for the organizing organizations, María José Barrio,
For this reason, this Saturday nearly 7,000 people took to the streets in the demonstration that took place in Reinosa this Saturday. against the dismantling of public health in Campoo. A mobilization in which the unions CCOO, UGT, USO, CSIF and the political parties PSOE, PRC, REC and IU, together with the citizens of the region, have demanded that the Government of Cantabria make a “decided” commitment to public health in Campurria. .
DAYS WITHOUT A DOCTOR
The spokesperson for the organizing organizations, María José Barrio, stressed that the health situation in Campoo, “far from improving, has worsened, with more days without a doctor in the SUAP and no dialogue with those responsible for Primary Care or with the of Specialized”.
Therefore, he hopes “that the change of course in the management of this Department of Health is clear and evident”, Otherwise, he warned, “we will take our complaints and demands as far as necessary.”
Barrio has reported that Throughout this month of November there have been two days of uncovered absences and we are still waiting for what will happen in December, “a complicated month with several holidays and special holiday care needs, both for the population and for the staff themselves.”
Likewise, Barrio has stated that Primary Care continues “in precarious condition” and is waiting to know the deadlines for the reconstruction of the Reinosa Health Center. Meanwhile, the residents of the municipality continue to go to the Tres Mares Hospital.
In this sense, the convening organizations have demanded “the unequivocal commitment that it will be operational in 2026 to recover normality.” Furthermore, they have pointed out that “We also have no news about, for example, oral health, which continues in Los Corrales and Torrelavega.”
DETERIORATION OF SPECIALIZED CARE
Unions and political parties have also denounced the deterioration of Specialized Care in the regional hospital, which is highlighted “with the cut in the number of maximum admissions for home hospitalization, which has gone from twelve possible to six, the loss of the endoscopy service, which forces patients to travel to Sierrallana, or the limited performance of major outpatient surgery despite having capacity, material means and trained personnel.
The organizations have thus demanded “the recovery by 2025 of the services lost in the hospital center and the commitment to enhance specialist consultations at the frequency appropriate to the needs of patients, as the citizens of Campoo deserve.”
Some problems, Barrio highlighted, that “drag down” the Campurrian public health system and that “will not be solved until the salary differences and working conditions of the professionals who provide their services here are resolved.”
Therefore, the organizations have demanded “exquisite management of human resources, so that no one suffers salary or rights discrimination and so that those professionals who commit to this region see their efforts rewarded.”
