The foreign ministers of the countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will hold virtual emergency conversations on Friday about the situation in Ukrainethe military alliance announced on Tuesday.

In addition to the tension on the border between Ukraine and RussiaAt the meeting, the foreign ministers will also address “general European security issues.”

Tension in that region has escalated in recent months amid fears that Russia is preparing a large-scale invasion of Ukraine, as it concentrates 100,000 troops along the common border.
Senior officials of U.S and NATO will hold talks with Russia next week, after the Russian government presented a list of demands.
Russia insists that NATO refuse to grant membership to ex-Soviet Ukraine, in addition to pushing back its forces from the military alliance near the Russian border.
Western countries, on the other hand, reject Russian demands and have already threatened Russia with paying a “high price” if it launches a military incursion into Ukraine.
The US government has tried to assure cautious European allies that it will act in a coordinated manner, dismissing fears of seeking a way out that affects Europe but without consulting.
The last meeting of the NATO-Russia joint council was held in 2019, and since then relations between the two former Cold War enemies have been frozen amid deep mutual mistrust.
NATO has insisted that it remains open to dialogue, although it has already accused Russia of rejecting its invitation to hold new talks.
