NATO | President Niinistö on Putin’s NATO speeches to BTI: Deciding on NATO membership is a matter between the candidate country and NATO member states

Putin on Wednesday called for “concrete agreements” in which the military alliance NATO pledges not to expand further east.

President Sauli Niinistö comments on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s speeches on NATO enlargement.

Niinistö says that deciding on NATO membership is a matter between the applicant country and NATO member countries.

Putin on Wednesday called for “concrete agreements” in which the military alliance NATO pledges not to expand further east.

“We are proposing to start serious talks,” Putin said at an event in Moscow for the ambassadors.

PUTININ the speech was based on an inflamed situation in the direction of Ukraine.

The United States and other NATO countries have accused Russia of large-scale troop concentrations near the Ukrainian border. Russia, on the other hand, has accused NATO of pushing into Russia’s borders.

It is highly unlikely that the United States or its NATO allies would agree to the agreement Putin wants.

Tensions in the middle of the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will negotiate on Thursday the escalating situation at Ukraine’s borders. The ministers will meet in conjunction with the OSCE Ministerial Conference in Stockholm.

The news is being updated.
