According to Uutissuomalainen's survey, the most sympathetic to the ban on leaving the reserve are the supporters of the Basic Finns and the coalition.
Over half of Finns would like to keep leaving the Defense Forces reserve as permitted in the future, according to a survey by Uutissuomalainen (USU).
22 percent of USU Gallup respondents would be in favor of passing a law prohibiting leaving the reserve, while 56 percent would oppose such a law. 22 percent of the respondents did not take a position on the question.
The most support for banning the separation was among the supporters of Basic Finns (42 percent) and the coalition (41 percent). Among the supporters of both parties, the support for the possible law was slightly higher than its opposition.
Clearly, the most opposition to the ban on leaving the reserve is among the supporters of the Left Alliance and the Greens. 84 percent of the supporters of the Left Alliance and 77 percent of the Greens opposed the law prohibiting resignation.
In mid-February, one thousand Finns responded to an online survey conducted by Uutissuomalainen at Tietoykkönen. The margin of error for the overall result is 3.1 percentage points in each direction.
The reserve of the Defense Forces consists of those who have completed conscript service. You can leave the reserve by applying for continuing education, after which you can become liable for civil service.
Minister of Defense Antti Häkkänen (kok) said in the Kyrönmaa magazine published at the beginning of February in the interview that he was looking for ways so that it would not be possible to leave the Reserve of the Defense Forces.
The interview started a wave of resignations. This year, by the end of February, more than 1,600 reservists had applied for a transfer to further training for the civil service. During the whole of last year, there were almost the same number of applications.
Häkkänen later retracted his statements. He told STT that he had not made an actual opening to deny leaving the reserve.
“This issue is not at the top of my defense policy priorities. On the contrary, it's a single small problem that bothers me, and at some point I might think about what to do about it,” Häkkänen told STT shortly after the interview with Kyrönmaa newspaper.
Häkkänen has admitted that his choice of words “were not the most successful” in the magazine interview.
