National defense Numerous Finns are now figuring out what their mission would be during the war: “There are a lot of contacts,” says the Finnish Defense Forces.

During a war, a mission or placement is defined for each reservist. People who are not conscripts have also offered their help in recent days.

Defense Forces currently receives a lot of inquiries from Finns who want to know their mission during the war.

“There are a lot of citizens contacting the regional offices,” says the captain Timo Miettinen from the Army Staff.

The matter is not recorded separately, but according to Miettinen, we can even talk about congestion.

The Reserve Alliance and the Reserve Officers’ Association have also received more inquiries about wartime investments since Russia invaded Ukraine. The unions have no information on the matter.

Reserves receive information from the Defense Forces Regional Office. The information is not provided, for example, by telephone, but the office must be visited on site or a request for information must be made.

Sodan the time function or investment is defined for many reservists.

The tasks were described, for example, in 2015 in letters sent to all 900,000 reservists. Part of the letter could read “Uninvested,” but Miettinen recalls being in the reserve is part of military readiness anyway.

According to Miettinen, Finns have also become active in updating information about their civilian skills. For example, if you have graduated as a doctor after military service, you can tell the regional office. In this case, the ranking may change during the war.

There are no changes in investments, especially due to the current situation, Miettinen says.

“It’s a day-to-day job for us.”

My help have also been offered in recent days by non-conscripts. For example, men over the age of 60, those dismissed for peace and foreigners have contacted the Defense Forces.

Women who, because of their age, can no longer apply for military service have also been contacted.

“As a rule, the Defense Forces do not place them in any capacity. There have been a lot of these inquiries as well, ”says Miettinen.

During peacetime, those released from service can be ordered for conscripts or a separate inspection, but this would already require a general mobilization.

Those who entered the civil service would be employed by, for example, state or municipal authorities or universities.

If there is no investment during the war, can one get one? By law, it is possible.

Finns aged 18-60 can be placed in wartime formations if they have voluntarily acquired education or special skills acquired through a profession.

You can also apply for a path to this through, for example, the courses of the National Defense Training Association (MPK). To receive the investment, a commitment is required, which the Defense Forces will accept at its discretion.

Some Finns are already set to continue in their jobs in order to secure the vital functions of society. These can be, for example, the police.

Finns the will to defend the country seems to have increased in the early part of the year and especially in recent weeks.

For example, MPK has reported that enrollments in its courses have multiplied. Contacts between Finns and applications for membership in the unions have increased significantly.

“The biggest question has been, what can I do and how can I help if there is a crisis in society,” says the Executive Director of the Reserve Association Minna Nenonen.

On the other hand, Uutissuomalainen said on Monday that during the first part of the year a record number of reservists have applied for civilians.

At the beginning of the year, 1,500 applications were submitted, which is about one and a half times the previous record year of 2015.

Correction 8.3.2022 at 12.50: Contrary to what was previously stated in the story, the mission during the war has not been defined in detail for all reservists. Some are uninvested in the reserve.
