Natalia Oreiro obtained her citizenship after many years. Since the 90s, the actress maintains emotional ties with the largest country in the world. However, just this last Wednesday, November 10, at the embassy of the Russian Federation in Buenos Aires, the singer from Rio de la Plata received two Russian passports: one in her name and the other with the name of the son she has with the Argentine singer Ricardo Mollo.
How the ceremony was carried out
The Russian ambassador to Argentina, Dmitry Feoktistov, was the one who granted him citizenship to the protagonist of the film Gilda. This was thanks to the fact that, on October 25, the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, signed Decree 603, which grants citizenship to mother and son. During the ceremony, he swore his allegiance to his new country of belonging. He greeted when entering the room in the native language with “Dobrayeútra”. Then he read the following text in both languages.
“I, Natalia Marisa Oreiro Iglesias, voluntarily and consciously agree to take the nationality of the Russian Federation. I swear to respect the Constitution and the legislation of the Russian Federation, the rights and freedoms of its citizens, perform duties as a citizen of the Russian Federation for the benefit of the State and society, protect the freedom and independence of the Russian Federation, be loyal to Russia, respect its culture, its history and its traditions ”, he expressed at the beginning.
Ambassador Feoktistov congratulated Natalia on her good accent when pronouncing the oath and presented the honoree with a bouquet of flowers. Later they toasted their new status with a couple of glasses of champagne.

The origin of the desire to obtain Russian citizenship
During one of her visits to the country that borders Europe, Natalia was invited to Evening Urgant, a television show in the style of an American late night. There, the driver Ivan Urgant told her that she was the one who most resembled a Russian native among all the foreigners. To which she replied that there was no doubt about it and that Putin himself could grant her citizenship.
So it was. In November 2019, the Latina was in the Russian embassy in Buenos Aires, where she resides, to start the arduous paperwork and with the arrival of the pandemic, the entire process intensified, lasting two years. All the hustle and bustle was worth knowing the affection that the Russians have for him. “In Russia, we consider Natalia ours. It all started in the 90s with Muñeca brava, which was called Wild Angel there. Since then she has millions of fans “, said the ambassador.
Little by little prejudices are demolished
Russian Ambassador Dmitry Feoktistov commented that he is very happy with the artist’s relationship with the country, as it helps to break down various cultural prejudices. “It makes a great contribution to the development of cultural cooperation between Russia and Latin America. In a sense it is diplomatic because there is no other more diplomatic task than to bring the peoples closer together “added. Finally he joked: “We have to consider that she is an employee of the Russian embassy in Argentina, but outside the staff,” he said.
His love for the Russian country began more than 20 years ago, when he co-starred in the Telefé novel Muñeca Brava. The production premiered just a decade after the fall of the Wall and, according to her, it was a boom.

“From the first moment, I felt very comfortable and very close to their culture.. And it struck me that we were a lot alike. I’m not just talking about physical appearance, but personalities. One was prejudiced that they were distant, but they always hugged and kissed me. I am looking forward to the end of this pandemic to embrace them again because that contact is what I like the most every time I travel, ”he told El Clarín.
