Abu Dhabi (Etihad)
Professor of the Arabic Oud, artist Dr. Naseer Shamma, is holding his first plastic exhibition entitled “Vision and Life: Forty Years of Color,” which brings together more than sixty artworks using various raw materials, which the artist has completed over the past years, within the exhibition hosted by the Union Gallery in the capital, Abu Dhabi, throughout the period. From February 11 until March 8, 2024.
The exhibition includes a variety of artworks with overlapping layers and rich, dense surfaces, albeit with multiple uses of artistic materials in one work, in what resembles Naseer Shamma’s attempt to deconstruct the artistic work into parts with stylistic structural relationships. He is the author of his doctoral dissertation entitled “Stylistism Musically.” .
For his part, Khaled Siddiq Al-Mutawa, owner of Al-Ittihad Gallery, saw that Naseer Shamma’s personal art exhibition is considered one of his conquests in color, painting, and artistic composition, as we are accustomed to in music, performance, research, origination, and history. Al-Mutawa said: “Naseer extrapolates the artistic work about its conceptual implications. And its existential status as an entity affiliated with the artist himself, regardless of the form of this entity, a painting, an instrument, or a string that plays music and bleeds suffering and hope after pain.”
Al-Mutawa concludes by saying: “No two people disagree that Nasir Shamma is an integrated musical project, and today we will know another side of Nasir Plastic Arts with different, coherent and high artistic bets, a side that only a few of his friends knew, and we are happy at the Union Gallery to share with you this special space, which took up Half a full life, and the picture will be completed with the publication of a luxurious book dealing with the artist’s experience and his aesthetic bets in composition.
On this occasion, the artist, Dr. Naseer Shamma, points out that his work on paintings in this way and not in any other way is due to a group of factors that motivate this work, the first of which is his interest in the human being who suffers from famines, wars, and natural disasters in the dialectic of abundance and scarcity, for his humanitarian role as an artist first, and as a UNESCO ambassador for peace, and as an ambassador. Extraordinary for Arabic music.
His second motivation is his loyalty and loyalty to the place that embraced him and gave him so much during his artistic career and his role as director of the House of Arab Oud in Abu Dhabi, the place where most of the works included in the exhibition were completed.
While his third and most prominent motive is the relationship between the materials used in the artworks, most of which come from the manufacture of oud instruments and their waste in the Oud House in Abu Dhabi, where Nasir uses the waste to revive and use natural wood material that can carry high symbolic connotations for trees and mother nature, and the artist’s responsibility before… Any other human being, in consolidating the concepts of sustainability, preserving nature, and raising environmental awareness.
