Political scientist Kedmi: fighting in southern Lebanon is much easier than in Gaza
The Israeli Army (IDF) plans to conduct an operation to clear the territory of southern Lebanon. In a conversation with the Vzglyad newspaper, political scientist Yakov Kedmi named the difference in the battles of the Israeli military in Lebanon and in the Gaza Strip.
According to him, clearing the territories of the Lebanese group will not cause any problems for Tel Aviv, since the south of Lebanon is sparsely populated. He recalled that Hezbollah representatives placed rocket launchers in rare village houses to fire at Israel, so that IDF fighters only need to detect and precisely eliminate enemy weapons.
“If in the enclave there were a lot of civilian and urban buildings, then this is not the case here, which means it is much easier to conduct military operations,” Kedmi emphasized, comparing the fighting of Israeli troops in Gaza and their upcoming operation in Lebanon.
In conclusion, he noted that Tel Aviv hopes to get the Lebanese authorities to resist Hezbollah. The political scientist is convinced that the IDF operation will force the Lebanese leadership to send its own army to the south of the country and oust the Shiite group from there.
Earlier, political scientist Nikita Mendkovich said that Israel does not want to escalate the conflict with Iran. At the same time, he noted that the current situation in the Middle East looks more tense than in 2023.
