Political scientist Ananyeva admitted that the election of a new prime minister of Britain will take two to three months
The procedure for finding a new prime minister of Great Britain will be very lengthy and may take two to three months. Such terms were named by the head of the Center for British Studies at the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences Elena Ananyeva in an interview with Lenta.ru.
She explained that the choice of the new head of the ruling Conservative Party will take place in several rounds.
In addition, Boris Johnson can be removed from the post of interim prime minister, replacing him with another official, the political scientist admitted. This issue will be decided on Monday when new members of the governing committee of the British Conservative Party (the so-called Committee of 1922) will be elected. “The question of what to do next will be decided there – to keep Johnson as acting or not,” she said.
Johnson left office on 7 July. He made this decision in the wake of the resignations of a number of members of the British Cabinet of Ministers. He will serve as head of government until a new leader of the Conservative Party is chosen. The politician was forced to resign due to a high-profile scandal caused by drunken harassment of his protégé, deputy coordinator of the Conservative Party, Chris Pincher.
