The veterinarian of the SberZdorovye online medical service told how to determine the presence of coronavirus in a pet. According to the specialist, cough and nasal discharge can become symptoms of the disease. RIA News…
The expert explained that pets rarely get coronavirus. This happens through close and prolonged contact with an infected person. The veterinarian named a way to diagnose an infection in a cat or dog. Signs such as sneezing, coughing, discharge from the eyes or nose, drowsiness, and heavy breathing are indicative of the disease.
To confirm or exclude infection, the expert advised to contact the veterinarian, where a swab from the nose will be taken from the pet. However, these symptoms are also signs of other respiratory infections – for example, mycoplasmosis.
“If the diagnosis is confirmed, but the pet is feeling fine, there is no need to treat it: just watch how it feels. If new symptoms appear or he gets worse, you need to go to the veterinary clinic, ”the veterinarian advised.
The specialist added that there is also a “feline” coronavirus that is not related to COVID-19. It is observed in almost all cats and is not dangerous, but in some cases it contributes to the development of infectious peritonitis and enteritis. The virus does not harm humans and dogs, as only felines are infected with it.
Earlier, the veterinarian spoke about the possibility of COVID-19 infection from pets. In his opinion, pets transmit coronavirus under some circumstances.
