The cyclist Nairo Quintana (Arkea Samsic), recent winner of the Tour de Provence and the Tour des Alpes-Maritimes, arrives thirsty for victory at the Paris-Nice that starts this Sunday and will run until March 13.
“The Paris-Nice is a race that I have always enjoyed a lot, I fought battles there, I remember great fights, and I was also able to do some podiums in this competition, which counts at the beginning of the season. It’s an early season goal for me, but also for the Arkea-Samsic team.. As usually happens in this race, care will have to be taken in the early stages, where there may be wind and fans,” said the cyclist from Boyacá hours before the start of the race.
Nairo, thirsty for more triumphs
“The time trial will be a first big exam, the profile is not entirely flat, but I will fight hard because I know that my competitors will be strong that day. I think that part of the general classification will be finalized on the afternoon of this time trial, and those who intend to win the general classification will have to negotiate it well”commented
Quintana this Friday.
The Colombian also highlighted the two mid-mountain stages before facing the next big challenge: the ‘Col du Turini’ finish line on the penultimate day. “I know the ‘Col du Turini’ very well. It is a very hard climb, four years ago we experienced an almost identical stage in Paris-Nice, and that gives me confidence. The mileage that day is short, which will make the race is intense and nervous”said.
Regarding the last day of the race, he said that there may still be some surprises. “It could be a day of changes, and this year even more with the passage through the ‘Col de Peille’ and then the ‘Èze’. I hope to achieve a good general classification because everyone is strong at the moment, my teammates are just as strong, we are in good condition and trust is installed within the Arkea-Samsic team”, he concluded.
