This was the final sprint
After several ups and downs, always desperately chasing others, the key movement reached 50 km from the finish line. 30 runners were ahead. All the favorites attentive, with Roglic, Quintana, the brothers Adan and Simon Yates, and some sprinters, like Jakobsen, protected by the ‘wolf pack’. The race was already flying. The Jumbo with four men, the Ineos with three and the Quick-Step with four were interested in asserting the numerous escape.
The Belgian Quick-Step squad unleashed their arsenal with 2km to go, launching Lampaert, Senechal and Stybar in relays to put Jakobsen on a platter. The leader Laporte was the first to attack decisively, marking the path to success for Van Aert. Among all emerged Jakobsen. Pure power on the pedals. The Dutchman went out for the men in yellow and snacked on them with a proficiency that demonstrated his status as the best sprinter at the start of the season. This Monday was the 31st victory of his professional career.
This Tuesday is the third stage, between Vierzon and Dun-le-Palestel, 190.8 km long, a steep route in the second part and a steep finale that may bring some surprises.
