the colombian cyclist Nairo Quintana announced this Friday that he will not renew his contract with the French team Arkea-Samsic.
“I want to thank the team for these three years because we were able to run several competitions, some that we won and others that we lost. I was able to give everything to the group and obtain important points to enter the World Tour,” said Quintana.

Quintana left Movistar in 2019, a squad in which he obtained the best results of his career, and reached the French cast of the ProTeam category.
There, he obtained 11 victories, but most importantly, he became the key cyclist to achieve the necessary points so that in 2023 he has a place in the World Tour.

“I announce that I will not continue with the team, as announced on August 16. Let’s keep pedaling.
Nairo Quintana had several problems in the team. First, in 2020, when his room was raided by the French gendarmerie, who were looking for a relationship between the Boyacá cyclist and prohibited substances.
And this year, he was disqualified from the Tour de Francein which he ranked sixth, because in two of his tests the substance tramadol was found, prohibited by the International Cycling Union (UCI) in competition.
The organization of the competition decided to apply the regulations for the violation of a rule and for that reason it stripped him of the sixth place in the general, which took away the prizes, the Arkea-Samsic lost the points earned in the ranking.
Quintana appropriated the issue and with his lawyers filed the appeal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS), which has not given the last word.
“Little by little we are commenting on my future. I have presented my defense to the TAS, we continue working with my lawyers. I am honest and I want to defend myself and prove it, ”she indicated.
