In the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, the activities of the third annual conference of the Emirates Cancer Society, which is organized by the Emirates Cancer Society in cooperation with the Emirates Medical Association, kicked off yesterday in Dubai, and its activities will continue over two days, with the participation of more than 1,000 specialists in the field of oncology from within the country. It is from 20 countries around the world.
His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan said in his opening speech: “The importance of this conference lies in preserving the knowledge and educational excellence that reflects the success of the medical profession. From this scientific forum, I affirm that the UAE is a state committed to promoting health and advanced medical practice, under the wise and enlightened leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him.”
He added: “We have taken a comprehensive approach to healthcare in the UAE. We not only seek to provide the best care for those suffering from acute or chronic diseases, but we also understand that health promotion, disease prevention, regular examination and early diagnosis are important elements in ensuring the best public health. We want our citizens to be confident that they are receiving high-quality healthcare. Our doctors are dedicated to keeping up with the latest advances in the fight against cancer, while providing amazing technologies that have changed the way doctors discover and treat cancer. Innovations such as nanotechnology, T-cell therapy, and radiotherapy help, Chemotherapy, artificial intelligence, precision medicine, cancer vaccines, and robotic surgery are extending life and revitalizing the fight against this dreaded disease that is a great challenge globally with its increasing incidence and mortality rates, so we all need to raise awareness among the public about the nature and scale of the problem”.
His Excellency the Minister of Tolerance stressed the importance of continuing research and increasing cooperation and work among all stakeholders to improve education and awareness about cancer, early detection and treatment, and to provide more research and training opportunities. There is also a challenge in the need to adhere to the best treatment methods to reduce suffering and enhance quality of life in the long run. For cancer patients and their families, to be at the forefront of the fight against cancer to improve screening, detection, treatment and prevention of cancer to promote environmental and lifestyle changes, to mobilize research into the rapid development of the latest cancer treatments, and to foster a shared commitment among all sectors of society in the fight against cancer.
This conference is the largest scientific gathering of oncology in the UAE, in which a group of doctors and specialists from around the world participate to discuss the most important and latest methods of treatment for cancer. Professor Humaid bin Harmal Al Shamsi, President of the Emirates Oncology Society and President of the Conference, said: “The importance of the conference comes from the number of participants coming from the United States, Canada, Britain, France and Germany. The international (MD Anderson) who contributed to the training of distinguished Emirati doctors in this field.” On the sidelines of the conference, it was announced that a new drug for the treatment of breast cancer will be available in the UAE, as the first country in the Middle East and North Africa to adopt this medical drug, confirming the leadership of the UAE, and it is one of the drugs directed at cancer cells that can benefit 50% to 60% of women with advanced-stage breast cancer.

On its first day, the conference discussed special sessions on breast, colon, stomach and other gastrointestinal cancers and leukemia. The participants in a special session discussed how to develop cancer research in the country, given the priority medical research occupies in the UAE.
The participants reviewed the most important modern treatments for blood cancers and bone marrow transplants, and modern immunotherapy that uses modern techniques to reprogram immune cells and then inject them into the body to attack and eliminate cancer cells, which has proven its efficacy and efficiency in treating and curing advanced cases of these diseases. The use of modern robots in complex cancer surgeries that reduce complications, enhance the chances of recovery and speed up leaving the hospital.
