Nagorno-Karabakh Media: Armenia accuses Azerbaijan of violent firing

Turkey announced peace talks with six countries on Friday.

Armenian Azerbaijani troops have fired heavily on Armenian troops late Wednesday, Russian news agency Tass said.

The firing had been halted, according to Armenians, when Armenia launched a counterattack. There were no casualties on the Armenian side, the ministry said, according to Tass.

Azerbaijan, meanwhile, said earlier on Thursday that one of its soldiers had been killed in Armenia’s “provocation,” according to Reuters.

The hostile neighbors last clashed violently in mid-November. At the time, more than twenty people were reported dead in battles that ended when Russia demanded the parties retreat.

Last a six-week war broke out between the two countries, claiming at least 6,500 lives. During the war, Azerbaijan was seized by large areas of the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh.

Russia and Armenia have a defense agreement. Turkey, for its part, has supported Azerbaijan.

Turkey announced Thursday that Russia will hold talks with six countries on Friday to find a solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute, Reuters said.
