Colombian soccer entered its final stretch, to define the teams that will dispute the first title of the year. In group A of the semifinal of the 2022-I League, Atlético Nacional has the first option to qualify for the last instance of the championship. In group B, Medellín won, took advantage of Tolima’s defeat and went on to command their zone.
Atlético Nacional, led by Hernán Darío Herrera, won two key games in a row against Bucaramanga, and those six points were vital for them to climb up the table from Group A. They have already recovered what they lost at home against Millonarios. “I see Nacional very competitive, very strong; we have taken an important step, but we have not won anything yet. We are going to continue in the fight to improve”, indicated coach Herrera.
Nacional will be a finalist if they beat Millonarios tomorrow at the El Campín stadium. With that victory he would reach 11 points, and although Junior could reach the same amount, he would be lower in the table due to his position in the round-robin table. In case of a tie tomorrow, Nacional will have to wait to see what happens in the game Junior vs. Bucaramanga.
Millos is not resigned
For Millonarios, the situation got complicated, but he still depends on himself. The goalless draw with Junior in Bogotá left him with no room for error, but he can still fight, his accounts are clear: if Alberto Gamero’s team wins the six points they have left, against Nacional in El Campín and Bucaramanga as a visitor, it will be finalist no matter what happens in the other matches.
If the ambassador team draws with the purslane, they need a victory for Bucaramanga in Barranquilla to define their fate on the last date away from home, but depending on what happens in the Nacional match against Junior.
At the end of the match in Bogotá, Gamero said. “We are not happy, but we are calm. Whatever happens, we still depend on us. We are going to fight until the end”, said Alberto Gamero. Mackalister Silva, the captain of Millonarios, spoke yesterday about the team’s chances of going to the final. “Depending on us is the fruit of the entire semester, the regularity we have had…” Silva said on Blu Radio.
Junior’s situation is also complex; With five points, he must win the two remaining games, against Bucaramanga and Nacional, and hope for a draw in Bogotá the next day. If he wins Millonarios at El Campín, he needs him not to do it later at Alfonso López. “Today, my players surrendered and the favorite team, out of six points, took four,” said coach Juan Cruz Real, defending Junior’s proposal to take a valuable draw from Bogotá.
Bucaramanga, for its part, is still alive, despite the defeat against Nacional. Now he must win the two remaining games, against Junior and Millonarios, and hope that Nacional does not add more points. In any case, DT Armando Osma begins to think about the future: “This does not end here, we have to continue adding points because there is a reclassification table that helps us to continue adding and now we will be judges in the group”.
The DIM climbed on the B
In group B, Medellín gave a blow of authority by beating Envigado 2-1, with goals from Andrés Cadavid, from a penalty and from a free kick. The DIM went on to lead the group with 8 points. He took advantage of Tolima’s defeat in his visit to La Equidad, 1-0, with a goal from Pablo Sabbag.
If DIM beats Tolima at home and La Equidad does not beat Envigado, this Sunday it will be a finalist. Tolima has to win at the Atanasio Girardot. If he draws, he is still alive but committed, depending on what happens with La Equidad, who visits Envigado.
The Bogota team must win on Sunday and hope that Tolima does not add, to fight for the quota on the last date against DIM.
