The Garda Grand Prix closed the triptych on the Pietramurata circuit of the MXGP, but two appointments from the end the World Championship is still very open, with the first three always enclosed in the space of as many points, even if compared to the Wednesday stage they have changed the order in which they are placed.
The curious thing is that this time the hero of the day was not one of the title contenders, but the Swiss Jeremy Seewer, who led Yamaha to success with an almost perfect Sunday. In the first heat he set a really unsustainable pace for all the others, presenting himself under the checkered flag with a margin of over 20 “against the direct rival Romain Febvre. In Race 2 he bowed to Tim Gajser, but his loot final of 47 points earned him the top step of the podium.
It was behind him, however, that the battle became really heated, with the Red Table moving from Jeffrey Herlings’ KTM to Febvre’s Kawasaki. The Frenchman took the lead thanks to the second place obtained in Race 1 right in front of the Dutchman. Then with the third place in Race 2 he took advantage of the double mistake of his rival, who crashed twice, but still able to climb up to fourth position.
As often happens in these situations, between the two quarrels the third manages to fit in. The success gained in the second fraction allowed Gajser to bring his Honda to the place of honor of the World Championship, one distance behind Febvre and with two margin over Herlings. The feeling, therefore, is that only the checkered flag of the last heat of the season will be able to write the verdict on a 2021 that was truly amazing.
As for Tony Cairoli, after his beautiful 94th win on Wednesday, the Sicilian from KTM struggled more this time, finishing both heats in fifth place. The same position that he then went to occupy also in the final classification of the GP. In the World Championship, however, he is now sixth, because he has been overtaken by Seewer, even if by just two points. In the viewfinder, however, there is still the fourth place of Jorge Prado, not yet at the top physically, which precedes him by only 6 points. Good day instead for Alessandro Lupino, tenth in the GP. A result gained above all thanks to the eighth place in Race 1.
MX2: Maxime Renaux is world champion
If in MXGP it will probably be necessary to wait for the last meter to discover the name of the world champion, in MX2 the games were closed well in advance: Maxime Renaux only needed the second place conquered in Race 1 to have the arithmetic certainty of the title. . The Frenchman from Yamaha, however, did things in a big way, because then he also went to take the victory of Race 2 and that of the GP, being able to kick off the party from the highest step of the podium in Pietramurata.
Behind him was Tom Vialle, who with the second place also went to take the place of honor in the world championship standings, overcoming a Jago Geerts who lived a decidedly bad day with a double fall. Completing the podium is Ruben Fernandez, third in both heats.
Bad day also for Mattia Guadagnini, protagonist of a start to forget in Race 1 and only ninth in Race 2. Results that make the hunt for the world podium more and more complicated and that have left him out of the top 10 of the GP. A goal that was instead achieved by Andrea Adamo, tenth in both heats.
