Jury eliminated about half of the participants of the fifth international Maj Lind piano competition on Tuesday evening, when the competition moves from the preliminaries to the semi-finals in the Sibelius Academy concert hall of the University of the Arts in Helsinki.
From Finns Alexei Zaitsev continue after being very successful, for example Magnus Lindberg with demanding contemporary music. Arttu Ollikainen was eliminated, even though he also did quite well in his preliminary round, for example Beethoven– and Rachmaninoff-as an interpreter.
A Dane who has already been studying in Finland for the sixth year was also able to continue studying at the Sibelius Academy David Munk-Nielsen. He has previously won piano competitions in Tampere and Tallinn, for example. The Sibelius Academy also gets a little credit for being here as an exchange student last year Théotime Gillot was able to continue.
The general level was otherwise stable, although not everyone could be big personalities. In terms of charisma, promises were raised, for example, by the bump of the competition, only 18 years old Hao Wei Lin. As expected, he advanced to the semi-finals.
You can go back to the preliminaries that took Zaitsev to the semifinals behind this link.
Semi-finals will be called on Thursday and Friday. The six finalists will continue to Sunday’s chamber music final and next week’s Wednesday and Thursday’s orchestra finals.
