Just three months after the release of its first portable gaming platform, MSI already seems to be taking action. The MSI CLAW 8 AI Plus has been revealed and seems to be a replacement capable of competing with other platforms on the market: replacing the Intel Meteor Lake chip with the brand new Lunar Lake ones, in addition to this the new CLAW abandons the 7-inch resolution screen variable and 120Hz for a larger 8-inch one.
A hastily done update
But the real news is the battery, which reaches up to 80 watt-hours, equal to that of the recently announced ASUS ROG Ally X. Despite the larger screen, MSI still promises a 120Hz refresh rate with VRR. Additionally, it will have a second Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port, and will come with an improved charger and triggers.
MSI did not provide any other details or images of the new product, saying that we will have more information during Computex. But we already know that Intel’s Lunar Lake chips offer up to 50% more GPU performance than Meteor Lake, a boost that puts the brand back on track, but highlights how the previous CLAW was problematic.
Survival of the fittest
MSI, however, didn’t stop there: in addition to revealing this new CLAW AI+, it also announced a limited edition CLAW. It’s about the original model but in Fallout style, which is inspired by the design of the Pip-Boy style. Although aesthetically it seems interesting, and will certainly drive fans of the Fallout brand crazy, especially given the renewed Fallout-mania due to the TV series on Prime Video, it is the same basic model already on the market.
All things considered, we’ll have to wait the Computex for news on this new MSI CLAW AI Plus, but if there is something certain, at least from what the company has said, drivers for the previous one will continue to emerge. Furthermore, this new model could arrive on the shelves in September, perhaps coinciding with a price drop of the initial version. The price of this new version, however, still remains a question.
