The Public Ministry of the State of Rio de Janeiro denounced, this Friday, 20, the religious leader Karla Cordeiro dos Santos Tedim, for practicing, inducing and inciting prejudice and discrimination against black people and those belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community. At the end of last month, in a live broadcast at the Church of Sara Nossa Terra, in Nova Friburgo, Karla preached against people who are ‘posting things about black people, gay people’.
According to the complaint, ‘under the pretext of praising her ‘flag’, Karla induced and incited contempt for people of black color and those members of the LGBTQIA+ community, practicing discrimination and prejudice against those and their causes by emphasizing the ‘shame’ that such ‘flags’ would matter if they were part of the social manifestations of their listeners’. The information was disclosed by the Prosecutor’s Office.
“Karla acted with contempt and prejudice against lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transsexuals, transvestites, queers, intersexuals, asexuals, non-binaries and people with different sexual orientations and gender identity, by mocking the representative acronym of the community that brings them together”, he says the document.
In a statement, the Rio Prosecutor’s Office also highlighted that ‘the criminal practice took place through discourse addressed to young people, distilling intolerance to social agendas of inclusion and citizenship with face-to-face and remote reach, enhancing the reach of the message and, thus, the disvalue of the result and the consequences of the offense’.
in live, held on July 31, Karla said: “It is absurd for Christian people to raise political flags, black people’s flags, LGBTQIA+ flags, I don’t know how many symbols there are. It’s a shame. Sorry to talk, but enough of the lies, I won’t live on lies anymore. It’s a shame. Our flag is Jehovah Nissi, it is Jesus Christ. He is our flag. Stop wanting to be posting things about black people, gays. For. Post the word of God that transforms lives. Become a believer, transform, convert”.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Rio stated that an agreement for non-criminal prosecution was not proposed, in the case, on the understanding that Karla committed a crime that violated the dignity of the human person, a fundamental principle of the Constitution.
After the repercussion of the video, the preacher released note in which he apologizes ‘for the terms he used’ during the live broadcast and that he ‘has no prejudice against people of other races’.
