Movistar, owned by Telefónica, will raise its rates by an average of 5.2% starting January 13, something they have already begun to inform their customers about, as confirmed by ABC. The company attributes this measure to the need to invest in networks, and to the increase in costs of the sector and television providers.
«Due to the general increase in costs in the sector and especially in the main television content providers, we will update the price of our rates from January 13, 2025. If you are currently enjoying a promotion, you will continue to enjoy all the benefits until it’s over,” the company tells its clients in a communication.
The letter also indicates the need to continue increasing investment to provide the best service: «In Movistar We want you to always enjoy the best quality. For this reason, we continue to invest so that you have the fastest fiber and 5G+ network in Spain, a reliable service and the best entertainment with the most exclusive content.
Most of the increases will be less than six euros per month; Yes, there are some above that amount but they are the least. The most general increase will be three euros, although the company clarifies that the increase depends on what each client has contracted because the price is updated for each service; For example, with television packages the increase will be greater.
Thus, in the case of suffering an increase of six euros per month, for the whole year it will be equivalent to 72 euros more per year and those who have an increase of three euros per month, it will be 36 euros more per year. Thus, the update of rates will have a special impact on the prices of platforms such as Netflix or Maxcontent providers that are included in some Movistar rates, and whose price increase means that it also has to be reflected in the cost for the Movistar customer.
As Ep highlights, although the increase in the price of Movistar services depends on the package that the client has contracted, the most common increase for users who only have the mobile service will be around 1 euro, while for those who have a convergent rate (mobile, landline, fiber and television) the extra cost will be around 3 euros (in the most common case).
