Movies | The movie Civil War is being marketed with images that have nothing to do with the movie

The commercials for the movie Civil War have once again brought up the difficult debate about the use of artificial intelligence in the film industry.

Production company A24 has published advertisements for the film produced by artificial intelligence Civil War.

The promotional images shown show post-apocalyptic scenes in major cities in the United States. All scenes refer to war-torn destruction in iconic locations.

The pictures have been published both on Instagram and as physical posters. In Finland, the film premieres tomorrow, Friday. The film, directed and written by Alex Garland, stars, among others Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura and Cailee Spaeny.

None the advertising image does not represent the scenes actually seen in the film.

That is why the pictures have aroused wonder about their purpose. In social media, the pictures have aroused criticism and surprise.

“You know damn well how the film community feels about using AI-generated content,” The Hollywood Reporter says one commenter said.

The use of artificial intelligence in the production of films and series was a key reason, for example to the Hollywood screenwriter strikes seen last year.

One artificial intelligence image shows, among other things, the destroyed Sphere building in Las Vegas.

In advertising pictures there are other problems than the fact that they don't depict genuine scenes from the movie.

The images created by artificial intelligence also have significant geographical and landmark errors.

For example, the Marina Towers in Chicago are actually on the same side of the river, but in the pictures they are on opposite sides.

A car with three doors can be seen in the wreckage photo set in Miami. One of the pictures shows a swan, which was probably intended as a pedal boat, but it doesn't look like one.

Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura and Cailee Spaeny star in Civil War.

The According to the Hollywood Reporter, a source close to the film has defended the release of the images.

“These are AI images inspired by the movie. The whole film is a big 'what if' and so we wanted to continue that idea with powerful, dystopianly realistic images of iconic landmarks,” the source is quoted as saying.

A similar conversation arose recently from Late Night with the Devilwhen it turned out that the film used images created by artificial intelligence.

Its subject because of Civil War has awakened buzz even before its release.

It is feared that it says too much about the current political reality in the United States. The fascist US president seen in the film (Nick Offerman) has been compared to a candidate in the upcoming presidential elections to Donald Trump.

50 million dollars paid Civil War is A24's most expensive production to date.
