Bad news shook the Boca Juniors environment: A player trained in the club's minor divisions, Fermín Núñez, was found dead this Monday in his hometown, General La Madrid, in the province of Buenos Aires.
Núñez, 19, was at the club between 2016 and 2019, when he was released. There he moved to the minor divisions of Huracán, where he remained until 2021.
Finally, not finding opportunities to play, Núñez decided to retire from football and return to his place of origin. At the time of his death, he was studying his first year of medicine at the Faculty of Health Sciences of the National University of the Center. Apparently, he took his own life, according to the first versions.
In a story on Instagram, in a photo in which he poses with Núñez, Barco wrote: “Rest in peace, brother. I love you, forever in my heart.”
The university also expressed its condolences. “The Faculty of Health Sciences of the National University of the Center deeply regrets the death of the first-year medical student Fermín Núñez, accompanies his family, friends and colleagues in this difficult moment,” says the publication of the educational institution on Facebook.
This was Fermín Núñez's career in Boca
“Fermín was a great boy, with a huge heart. He played everything and always pushed forward, although sometimes that personality he had played against him a little,” Luis Luquez, his coach in the Ninth Division of Boca, told the newspaper La Nación.
La Nación also managed to establish that Núñez had undergone psychiatric treatment while he was still part of Boca's minor divisions.
Lúquez was fired from Boca and arrived at Huracán, where he recommended several players who had also been released, among them Núñez, who, finally, gave up his idea of being a professional player and returned to his town.
Boca dedicated a farewell message to him in an Instagram story: “With deep pain we regret to announce the death of Fermín Núñez, who played in the Boca Juniors youth team between 2006 and 2019. We accompany his family and loved ones at this time.”
