Mourning among the Independiente Medellín fans: Caretorta died in an accident

Its original name is a mystery. One day, driven by his love for Medellín and the nickname by which everyone knew him, he went to the Registry Office and changed his name.

In addition to being a fan of ‘Poderoso’, Caretorta worked for many years in the Public Companies of Medellín as a driver and in recent years he drove a taxi. Thus, he managed to raise his two sons, Jorge Alexánder, architect, and César Oswaldo, agronomist, both graduates of the National University.

He loved Medellín so much that he even went to the stadium to watch a game against América on the same day his father died, in 1983. “I thought: my dad has already gone to heaven, now I’m going to heaven.” stadium,” he said in an interview with EL TIEMPO in 2004.

He always appeared in the stands with the shirt and a giant Medellín flag and claimed that he avoided the color green. “It makes my eyesight sick,” she said.

​Players from different eras in Medellín always had affection for him and even accepted invitations to his house to eat a plate of beans. He had a favorite phrase: “If you are going to speak badly about Medellín, make sure your visit is short.”

Caretorta had already escaped death on several occasions. In 1990 he suffered a pre-infarction after Medellín missed a maximum penalty and since then he had to take heart medication.
