Mountaineering Three French mountaineers missing in the Himalayas: “Hope of finding survivors is virtually zero”

Climbers have not been reached since Tuesday last week.

Hope to find the three French mountaineers who disappeared in the Himalayas after the avalanche faded almost non-existent on Monday, news agency AFP reports.

The lost trio of climbers tried to reach the top of the 6,000-meter Mingbo Eiger near Mount Everest in Nepal. They were last heard on Tuesday, October 26 last week.

According to the French National Climbing Federation (FFCAM), the men seem to have given up the ascent attempt and turned back when an avalanche hit them.

“Rescuers found three bags and equipment at the bottom of the cliff,” the climbing association said, according to AFP.

“The hope of finding survivors is virtually zero at the moment.”

Missing the existing climbers are part of an eight-person expedition. The rescue and search team of the local guide association plans to continue the search on Tuesday despite the bad weather.

According to AFP, there have been allegations in the Nepalese media that the group did not have proper permits. The climbing association FFCAM denied the allegations in its release.

International climbers have returned to Nepal since the country lifted quarantine requirements on vaccinated foreigners in September.
