Cross-country skiing switched to mountain running Susanna Saapunki made Finnish history on Sunday by running through the first ever prize – winning World Cup competition in Montemuro, Portugal.

Saapunki, 29, ranked second in the 10.2-kilometer-long, 1,080-meter ascent classic of Kenyan Joyce Njerun after.

“I now only have 46 seconds left for the Kenyan, while last year I had more minutes left,” Saapunki rejoiced in the press release.

“Now the right things have been done and the training season seems to have been a success. It is good to continue with this during the World Cup. ”

The Italian who ran third in Sunday’s race Camilla Magliano lost to Saapung just over three minutes.
