Just twelve months ago Maverick Vinales won the inaugural race of the 2021 MotoGP class championship in Qatar, in Lusail, on his Yamaha M1. Few would have imagined seeing him today at the start of the world championship with Aprilia, after having raced five races with Noale last year. The Spaniard seems to be gaining more and more confidence with Noale’s bike, and this winter he showed good potential that can give the fans of the Italian brand hope. Vinales in Lusail won on three overall occasions (in 2017 in MotoGP and in 2012 in Moto3) and therefore hopes to do well from the race scheduled for Sunday. Below are the statements made by the Spaniard in the usual press conference on Thursday.
Goals for Qatar. “I think for us, if we are to be realistic, we need to wait a bit to improve. I also said it in the tests, we still need a few tenths to fight for the top positions. However I think we are doing a good job, we are taking those necessary gradual steps to get to the top. There is a need for trust, the bike is different in the character of the engine is different. It is not easy and it takes time. I felt very good in the tests and the Qatar track is special. We’ll see what we can do. “
First Aprilia victory in 2022. “We have to stay calm, to win in MotoGP you need to put together a lot of details. I don’t think we’re ready yet, but sometimes I think MotoGP is crazy and it can happen the right day and win. It will be necessary to improve some points of the bike and my riding style to go faster. Whatever result we get in Qatar, we will have to keep improving step by step. I don’t feel ready, but this bike has great potential. “
