The 2021 season has been quite a troubled one for Maverick Vinales, who certainly would never have imagined, after the victory in the opening race in Losail, to finish the season in Aprilia. The traumatic and controversial break with Yamaha required the Spanish rider to completely reset to get out of an evident crisis in which he had fallen and to embrace the challenge that Noale offered him, more than ever determined to put him at the center of the project. And so Vinales accepted to run the last races of the world championship on the RS-GP, obtaining an eighth place in the second race at Misano as his best result in the 5 GPs disputed. The Spaniard’s goal is to find a meeting point between his adaptation to the bike and the right set-up that allows him to fully exploit his strengths.
“I found the bike pretty good. The level of competition is very high, but I feel there is great potential in the team and in the bike. We have to figure out how to get it out, and that’s the hardest thing“, The Aprilia rider told Official Motors, to Eicma, adding that he appreciated the progress made in recent tests: “We were lucky enough to do some races that more or less made us understand what we need to go faster. In the Jerez tests we worked a lot on corner entry, because it is very important, as I was coming from a different engine with completely different braking and I had to adapt a bit and that is the aspect where I am struggling the most. We focused on the engine brake and the front, doing a step forward. That was the first aspect to improve and we did it, now we have to go over the others ”.
The 26-year-old from Figueres also gave an overview of his rivals: “The most difficult drivers you have met in your career? The first was Miguel Oliveira, against whom I have always fought since I was a child, then with Valentino Rossi I had a very good challenge. Next year Bagnaia will be strong, I bet on him for the fight for the world championship. I hope Marc Marquez can return soon, because it will be good for the world championship“, Finished Vinales.
