Dorna Sports announced this morning that the Sepang International Circuit will remain on the MotoGP World Championship calendar until at least 2024, with a further contract extension until 2026 which is already under discussion.
Among other things, the agreement provides for Petronas to return to the MotoGP scene. The Malaysian company had terminated its sponsorship of the Yamaha satellite team at the end of last season, but will now return as title sponsor of the home Grand Prix as early as the 2022 edition.
Despite being on the calendar since 1999, the Malaysian Grand Prix has only experienced 20 editions, as the last two have been canceled due to the restrictions imposed by the Coronavirus pandemic. However, Sepang has already returned to host MotoGP this year, on the occasion of the pre-season tests.
