Six Ducatis in the top 10
Jorge Martin was the fastest on the first day of MotoGP testing at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia from today until Thursday. The reigning vice-world champion stopped the clock at 1'57″951 in the 22nd of his 59 laps. The representative of the Prima Pramac team was the only one to break the 1'58″ barrier, demonstrating as always a special affinity with pure speed even on the new Ducati GP-24.
Behind the 2018 Moto3 world champion is his compatriot Pedro Acostawho made the most of last week's Shakedown days, immediately confirming himself at the very top of the premier class despite being a rookie, a rookie on whom attention is very high after winning two titles between Moto3 and Moto2 in just three years of MotoGP .
Third half for Fabio Quartararo with Yamaha which, according to what Simon Crafar reported, brought as much material to Malaysia as Honda. The two Japanese manufacturers want to make the most of the concessions and in the Iwata garage today it seems to have already been decided what the aerodynamic configuration will be (entrusted to the Italian Dallara) that will be used in 2024. Fabio Di Giannantonio, Enea Bastianini completed the top-10 , Maverick Vinales, Alex Marquez, Marco Bezzecchi, Marc Marquez and Johann Zarco.
Marc Marquez started the day with some technical problems that saw his Ducati fall silent in Turn-4, then subsequently he crashed in Turn-15, a crash with no consequences. The reigning world champion also crashed – on the first lap Francesco Bagnaia, who has not yet tested the new hull. The Ducati rider finished in 16th position, eight tenths behind Martin. Many innovations appeared on the track, especially at an aerodynamic level, to the point that Miguel Oliveira's Aprilia was equipped with Pitot tubes at the tail, the so-called 'rakes' already well known by F1 enthusiasts.
