Considering the history of disagreements between the Italian and the Catalan, it is understandable that the “Doctor” has undoubtedly positioned himself in the most critical sector of public opinion regarding the arrival of the 93 rider in the Ducati box.
According to Valentino Rossi, the fact that Ducati ultimately opted for Marc Marquez instead of Jorge Martín is the trigger that led Pramac to not extend its relationship with the Borgo Panigale company as a motorcycle supplier. And not only that, but also to the dismantling of the pyramid that had been created and that led the brand’s riders to go through very marked stages on their path to the official team.
In an interview given a few weeks ago to “L’Équipe” and whose statements have been reported by several media in the last few hours, Rossi showed little agreement with those responsible for planning the future of the manufacturer, whom he accuses of not having measured the consequences of their choice, while defending the credentials demonstrated by Pecco Bagnaia, his pupil in the VR46 Riders Academy.
“I didn’t quite understand it. Ducati had an interesting system, with a pyramid that allowed young riders to progress. So Pecco was brought on board, and Martin and Marco Bezzechi were also expecting it. And suddenly Ducati decided to take Marc,” he added.

“It’s normal for them to feel betrayed. From one moment to the next they no longer count, so I’m not surprised that they consider Marquez’s choice a joke,” reflects the rider from Tavullia, who sees the move as a bad deal for the Bologna manufacturer, especially with regard to the stability it had achieved.
“The consequence of this (Márquez’s hiring) is the breaking of the alliance with Pramac,” he argued, referring to the five-year contract signed by Paolo Campinoti’s team with Yamaha, which thus buys back its satellite team.
Asked what effect the arrival of the rider from Cervera could have on Bagnaia, Rossi believes that his colleague is more than ready to face the challenge that awaits him. “Pecco is ready. He is making the difference and has managed to raise the bar. He is a two-time world champion and is fighting for the third title, but in my opinion he did not need to have Marc in the garage to show that he is number one,” said the multiple champion.
